On June 14, the first batch of domestic intelligent welding robot equipment systems for flexible manufacturing in offshore engineering, developed under the leadership of Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC), was commissioned in Tianjin, providing equipment support for cultivating new quality productive forces in the offshore energy sector.
These equipment systems were integrated in August last year and subsequently entered the testing and acceptance phase. After nearly ten months of on-site commissioning and engineering validation, all performance indicators met the design specifications, and the systems?have now been put into industrial operation.
The equipment systems are specifically developed for challenging, customized heavy-duty welding scenarios, including offshore oil and gas platform topside nodes, deep-water jacket stiffening rings, and buckle arrestors. They have a design life of 20 years and a maximum load-bearing capacity of 30 tons. The core software and process libraries are 100% domestically developed. Featuring high environmental adaptability and operational flexibility, the systems can effectively tackle challenges including poor weld accessibility and stringent precision control when welding large, spatially complex offshore structures.
The project team overcame a series of industry-wide technical hurdles, including variable cross-section welding groove recognition, complex path planning, and intelligent welding process parameter matching and adaptive adjustment. This resulted in over ten technological innovations, such as AI-vision-powered weld recognition, 3D laser vision intelligent fit-up, and multi-layer, multi-pass welding with intelligent pass arrangements. The robot can be started with a single touch to autonomously complete component welding, with capabilities such as intelligent trajectory correction and intelligent back welding.
Currently, the systems can weld steel up to 70 mm in thickness and achieve a first-pass welding acceptance rate exceeding 98%, delivering an overall efficiency improvement of more than 40% compared with conventional welding methods.
